A Visit With Two Young Princesses

It was the beginning of the Christmas season when my daughter Ann call wanting to know if her Dad and I could come for Christmas, I told her I sure wished we could but I have been having problems with my knee and would not be able to make the trip, she then suggested that maybe they could come to us for a visit.  I thought that was a great idea, so she said she would see what plans she could make and would get back with me.  A few days later she called back and said they would come but it would be the day after New Years and they would have to leave that Saturday, it would be just a short visit but that would be great and by the way we will be bringing Ryah and Evelyn.

Now Ryah is 13 and Evelyn is 11 and they are Ann's Granddaughters which makes them my Great Granddaughters.  That would be wonderful, you see they all live in Arizona which means this Grandma doesn't get to see them very often, so to have them want to come for a short visit is like having icing on a cake...

They arrived here a little after 6 o'clock that Wednesday, I had put together a Chile Rellenos Casserole earlier, so in the oven it went, they brought in their things, put them in the guest rooms, Ann and Kim took the red room and the girls took the blue room, I was busy finishing the dinner with Ann's help and visiting too, Grandpa and Kim were enjoying themselves with relaxing and catching up with their latest activities and the girls were just busy looking around.

Dinner was ready, we all gather around the dining room table enjoying the meal and catching up with life and all the activities.  Soon everyone was full so we quickly cleared the table, put things away and did the dishes.

I notice the girls were still busy walking around looking at everything and talking softly to each other, they would go into their bedroom look and talk and lay on the bed, I think their eyes were as big as saucers as they were taking everything in.  Now in this room I have a king size bed, there is vaulted ceilings and a shelf running around 3 of the walls, this shelf is about 8 feet from the floor.  In this room I have family pictures and many of the pictures are of Ryah, Evelyn and their family.

Soon we were all in this room seeing what these young girls were up too.  When their Grandpa (Kim) asked them what was going on, they said this house was like a Palace.  Soon they were talking about the king size bed that they would be sleeping in and all their pictures that were in this room and then their Grandpa pointed out the 5 generation picture on the shelf of Ryah as a baby with her mama and all the Grandmas, what a treat to see her expression and to realize that in that picture was not only her grandma, but this great grandma and a great, great grandma too, not everyone is blessed to have a 5 generations picture.

Now Ryah is growing into a lovely teenager who likes to sing and read and Evelyn is all smiles as she dances around doing jumps and twirls up and down this Grandma's wood floors.

Now I know that when these two young girls were little, they liked to dress up and pretend to be princesses, they even had cups that only a princess would drink out of and I know that their Grandpa would refer to them as his little princesses, so coming to this Grandma's house and thinking they were in a Palace and were going to sleep in a princess bed only made me smile that warmed my heart.

The days went by so very fast, we went to town and Ann did some shopping for somethings that are hard to find in Arizona, we went to Del Taco for lunch and just enjoyed the day sharing then returning home to have soup, cheese tortillas and salad for dinner. The next day Kim took the girls to the mountains to enjoy the snow, after all the girls wanted to see the snow and be snow princesses.  Ann and I stayed home and just enjoyed visiting and having some mom and daughter time.  Later that afternoon we met Brad, Kim and the two princesses at the Chinese Restaurant for dinner, then home for a relaxing evening while the girls spent the evening talking and having fun in the blue room perfect for two beautiful princesses.

Saturday was the next morning and time for our visit to come to an end.  I fixed breakfast when everyone else was busy packing suitcases and packing the car, soon we were all sitting around the table enjoying our last meal together for this visit.  Then it was time for them to leave, we said our goodbyes with hugs and kisses, stood on the porch and waved as their car drove down our long driveway on their way back to their home in Arizona.

My Sweetheart and I smiled at each other as we commented about our short visit with a sweet daughter, loving son-in-law and two darling princesses in our Palace fit for my Sweetheart the King and his loving wife the Queen...

  1. Mom, this entry brought tears to my eyes. The joy of a mother/grandmother is to have her family come home and share an experience or two. I love you and cherish our visits together.
