A Visit With My Friend

I have a friend name Donna, she is just a little older than I, has a sweet spirit and is fun and enjoyable to be around.  My friend Connie and I have been visiting teaching her for a few years, but now with this new program in Relief Society we are her ministering sisters, what this means is we still visit with her letting her know we care about her and if at anytime she needs some help we are there to help.

She has always seemed to enjoy our visits, we talk and share and she always tells us that she hopes we will always come and that the presidency won't change us.  We assure her that we enjoy our visits with her, after awhile and our visits come to an end she always thanks us for coming and then has us take some candy from her candy jar.

When I was a caregiver for my mother she would enjoy sitting around her kitchen table just to talk and in the evenings I would read to her.  She would always look forward to this time and always comment how much she enjoyed this.  Now there was a dear neighbor that lived next door to my mother, many times I would go over to her house and knock on her door, she would invite me in and we would sit and talk and visit.  I too enjoyed these visits and now with my Mama and this dear neighbor gone there is a void that I do miss.

One day when I was over at Donna's I asked her if I could come another time and visit with her, she seemed pleased and said she would like that.

It was just before Christmas, I called her and asked if I could come for a visit, she said she would love that, so we set a day and time for our visit.  I took my Christmas book with me as I thought she would enjoy hearing some Christmas stories.  The book is one that was made in our Relief Society years ago, we sisters wrote Christmas stories and memories on many different Christmas subjects and events.  I had written a few and I thought Donna would enjoy hearing them.  She seemed to enjoy my stories and the visit and hope we would do it again.

Last week I called her again and asked if I could come for another visit, so again we set a day and time.  When I had taken down my Christmas decorations this year, I thought I would like to take my handmade ornaments over to show Donna.  Now I have been making my children, grandchildren and great grandchildren a special Christmas ornament each year since 1979 and this year I had made 55.  I have told Donna about these ornaments before and she has said how much she would enjoy seeing them, so I thought I'll take them over and share them with her.  She seemed excited when I arrived and was eager to see my ornaments, as I showed them to her I told her the year they were made and the meaning or reason for that special one.  She seemed to enjoy looking at them and would commit on each one and ask how I made them and where I got the idea.  We had a lovely afternoon sharing, in fact I think I was there about 2 hours.

I have enjoyed these visit with my friend and I have learned a few things about her.  She like the TV program Jeopardy, so do I.  We comment about how many times they have had LDS questions on their programs and I have wondered if they have an LDS person on their staff.  I also know she has Macula degeneration and has to have shots in her eyes each month.  I understand this because my dear husband has the same problem and he too has to have shots in his eyes each month.  I also know that having this condition makes it hard to see somethings and is also hard to read things, making having a magnifying glass near by or a book with large print.

Yes I have a sweet friend and her name is Donna, my daughter Marta says, "Friends are Necessary" and I do agree with that, having someone you can visit and share with and one that seems to enjoy your visit as much as you enjoy visiting them, brings warmth to ones soul.

I have told Donna about this "blog" that I write and she has asked me what I write about?  I told her its about my thoughts and feelings and some comings and goings.  She said that it sounded interesting and she would like to hear some of my post.  I told her the next time I come for a visit I would bring my "blog" with me and I would read her some of my post.  She told me she would like that.  I'll call and see if I can come for a visit soon and I'll read her this post. I'm sure she will like it and I bet I'll see a sweet smile on her face.

Thank you Donna for letting me be a friend and thank you for letting me come to visit you.. until our next visit.. .Have a good day...
